Oricon's list of everlasting female idols

Recently, Oricon (the company that is responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly Oricon sales charts) ran a poll among its readers to rank Japan's most "everlasting female idols".

Basically it's a list of which female idols have or had longevity in the business and are most memorable. As you can see, Morning Musume made fourth on the list. Here is a list of the results in romaji (courtesy of Tokyohive):

1. Matsuda Seiko
2. Yamaguchi Momoe
3. Koizumi Kyoko
4. Morning Musume
5. Nakamori Akina
6. Nakayama Miho
7. Pink Lady
8. AKB48
9. Matsuura Aya
10. Kawai Naoko (tied)
10. Moritaka Chisato (tied)

Nice to see Ayaya being praised and Morning Musume so high. No surprise with #1 - Matsuda Seiko is a living legend with over 70 singles, over 70 albums, and a couple of American releases. She has definitely influenced all idols - including H!P - as her 8th single, Akai Sweet Pea, was covered by Tanpopo#.

The only thing I'd change about this list is the addition of Onyaku Club. Even though the group wasn't around for too long, their idea (hey let's make a group with a crapton of girls!) has lived on and is very evident in today's idol world.

But anyway yay for Morning Musume and Matsuura Aya!

  1. Saw this list on Tokyohive a few days ago. Glad to see H!P is well represented. I'm guessing Matsuda Seiko will never loose her titel as eternal idol.

It's funny but Moritaka Chisato is also under UFA I believe.

And yeah, Onyanko Club should have been up there but in many ways the XX48 groups are basically the Onyanko's of today. The concept alone.

  4. @raffi: Well it's only because that MM was around longer than AKB.
