So first let me say that Airiindeshou is and will always be free and will never have a bunch of ads like some websites do (the only one that I have is the CDJapan banner at the bottom of each page, which doesn't bother anyone).
I've been toying with the idea of accepting donations for a while now but I've mostly been against it so I'm asking what you guys think.
Of course, I don't own/buy every single thing that I upload, but most of the concerts and DVDs I have actually bought myself.
Years ago this wasn't necessary because ISOs would always appear somewhere on the net (often times days before its actual release date). But times have changed and even some of the more popular DVDs take weeks to show up on the net (if at all). As the days pass by, buying the merchandise is becoming more and more of a necessity. I certainly have no problem buying and supporting the girls of course. I just don't have the funds to buy $45 DVDs constantly.
Which is why I've been thinking about adding a donation button to this blog. 100% of the donations would go toward the purchase of concert DVDs (or the like). I would then be able to order them and have an encode up the same day as its Japanese release date most of the time.
I could also run a contest just for the donators. Since I wouldn't need the DVD anymore after I make an encode from it, everyone who donated would be able to win the concert DVD like a raffle. And in the event that I have any left over donations, it would simply go towards the next purchase - I would never keep any of it for myself.
Would anyone be interested in participating in something like this? I'm not really expecting this to work, but after a commenter brought the idea of donations to my attention, I thought I'd at least put it out there.

Thinking about donations

I think this is a good idea, even though I know that I myself won't be able to donate because of my parents, even if I wanted to, which I would probably donate a few dollars here and there if I could :/
ReplyDeletemmmmm I don't understand this of the donations...
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very good idea! I have been reading your blog for over half a year and the main part I love about it is the opportunity to watch concerts and various other pieces!
ReplyDeletePlus with the current economic downturn, who wants to be spending lots of money all of the time?
Go for it ;) x
I don't know how this is going to work, how do we send the donations? I'll see what I can do, because I feel really guilty downloading all these things for free while you buy them.
ReplyDeleteI get 20€ pocket money per moth, and even if I need most of it, I would try to send you some.
thats a great idea. I do try to buy the singles and albums but because i'm unemployed, i can't really buy more than £100 worth of stuff per year and that includes any shiping charges. I wouldn't mind donating to you. I know i don't post comments often on your site but i'm really thankful for all that you do.
ReplyDeleteGood idea, but not sure how it would work. Although many people want to donate(like myself) few can. Maybe you can add a another hello project related ad, just a small one
ReplyDeleteIt would be pretty simple to set up. Anyone that has a Paypal account or a credit card would be able to send money in any currency through Paypal.
ReplyDelete@Melizz: Even if I were to add more adds, I'd make no more than $5 a month (and that's on a really, really popular month; it'd usually be less than a dollar).
I like the idea, i just need another method other tha Paypal or credit card to make the donation... maybe a bank deposit or money order , i don't know.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean, and i would really like to help, we can make this work even if just a few of us donate.
^ If you make a paypal account (it's free), you have the option of paying via instant transfer from a bank account.
ReplyDeleteYeah, these days release on the tracker/net seems quite slow especially for concert and photobooks. Maybe most of the uploader is busy with life or already moved on after their oshimen graduated.
ReplyDeleteSo, I kinda like your idea. But I don't know how much I can help. Exchange rate to US kinda high for me~ But I believe any amount will do, right? So I'll do what I can.
See, I told you people would support you
ReplyDeletei think is VERY OKAY
ReplyDeletei really love ur sharing & blogs, could also add google checkout since maybe many don't use paypal...
@Andy: Yep, any amount would be fine. You could also may payments in yen if you have a better exchange rate since that's what I'll ultimately be paying CDJapan with anyway.
ReplyDelete@hikaruwizard: good idea, but google checkout isn't free so I can't use it.
i'd be down for at least 5$ a month (poor college student), but i love this blog for all it does as far as viewing opportunities as well as the subs. even if it's just a few of us donating a few bucks, that's at least SOMETHING not coming straight out of your pocket :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good idea but then again, I won't be able to donate - unfortunately. ;__;
ReplyDeleteMaybe when I start working then, I could donate. And when I get my own credit card lol. But for now, as much as I wanna donate, I wouldn't be able to. Sorry. D:
Good idea,, I like your blog post, because most of them are download stuff with hello pro related and your encode work is great,,
ReplyDeleteI can help you, but perhaps in small amount cuz I don't have much money,,
whatever I'll be glad to help you for this stuff,,
Thank you for the support everyone! I'll be thinking about the specifics and work on the exact details before I start accepting donations.
ReplyDeleteI'll be donating too :)
ReplyDeleteSo don't worry I think this is a great idea!
I really think this is a great idea. I posted about it on another blog entry. I think it is a good way to band together on this.
ReplyDeleteI don't have the know how to encode or really mess with region free players etc.
The way my set up is is that to even get a bluray player, I would have to purchase a new television and that is just out of the question. So even if I wanted to buy these things (which I do!) I would have no way to actually watch them.
I understand your hesitation... if I was in your shoes I would feel... tacky? BUT you should NOT feel that way at all!
We are a community here. And this way we all band together and share. The encodes will really help people that have not way to watch the actual items; and an actual copy will still be purchased to support the artist. I still by the cds and such when I can, but the videos are always a problem... I've really begun to think about this with the super sweet Aichan bluray coming up.
Please keep us updated. A PO box may be something you may even consider... it seems we have some international peopel on here that may not feel comfortable using a credit card. But paypal is very safe!
^ I'm working out the exact details now and I'll make another post about this soon, so don't worry, I'll keep everyone updated.
