Airii~n Deshou?! Monthly Wrap Up (October 2011 Edition)

What's this? A wrap up post that's on time? Awesome.

For the first time since I had an AD?! record high 75 posts in May, I managed to increase upon last month's post count (44 this month compared to 40 in September). October was definitely an up and down month, with it being the first time Aichan was not a Morning Musume member in 10 years and Yuuka's graduation announcement.

But, at the same time we got awesome things like four new HelloPro! TIME Episodes, the DEEP MIND preview/digital release, new PVs, and a bunch of other things.

Berikyuu Island setlist and radio rips

Berikyuu's joint concert is under way, which means we now know about the setlists (more on that in a minute). I expected it to be epic, but I wasn't prepared for the encore songs. For the day concert, C-ute performed Heroine ni Narou ka! (mostly by themselves; Berryz danced with them). And for the night concert, Berryz performed Kiss me Aishiteru (with C-ute dancing with them). Is that not the greatest thing ever?

Yuuka's really leaving, isn't she?

I've had a night's rest and thought about yesterday's news and I think it hurts more today than it did yesterday. This is one of the longest posts I've ever made, so brace yourselves.

Normally right now is the time where I start going through the conspiracy theories on why they probably aren't true, but this time I think it's pretty obvious. A High School age girl that wants to go to university? How rare. /sarcasm

You can talk about how the new members being added and how Saki leaving had an effect on her (which I'm sure they did) all you want, but as the primary reason for her leaving? That just sounds ludicrous to me, especially if you are to believe what Tsunku said, "Even though she's been a member from the beginning, she expressed her will to concentrate on getting in to a university." (Thanks to sa1234 for the translation) I refuse to believe that Yuuka would give up everything she's worked for over a change in the group's operations.

So, instead of getting hyped on theories that barely have a leg to stand on, I want to look at what we do know. The first being that it was Yuuka's decision. We don't have a direct, clear cut statement from her saying those exact words, but just reading either of the translations of Yuuka's comment and blog post should point you in that direction. We also know that S/mileage "will continue to evolve with changes to it's members just like Morning Musume." (from the sa1234 translation above) And finally, we know that she's been thinking about this for a while. "I’ve been really concerned about not being able to do both work and school since I’ve begun high school." (TMKR and blog! project) That is quite a lot to digest in one paragraph, so let's take it one thing at a time.

Maeda Yuuka to graduate from S/mileage, H!P

It's still very early in Japan (as in 5:30 AM) so we do not have official confirmation from UFA staff, however it has been published in a few different Japanese newspapers that Maeda Yuuka will graduate on December 31st, 2011.

I normally don't post rumors and wait until we have official word, but 5 different newspapers are reporting the same thing and S/mileage is trending in Japan at the moment, so it's a good chance that this is true.

It's very unfortunate news not only for S/mileage, but also for Hello! Project because Yuuka definitely is one of the more talented and popular members (not to mention one of the younger members). It's going to be very difficult for S/milege to continue on after this; leader DAWA is going to have to keep her group together through all of this adversity and hope that 2012 proves to be a better year for the group.

Like always, I have a 24-hour rule before I start spewing paragraphs of text on how I feel one way or the other, but still, it's really hard to take all of these graduations in such a short period of time.

EDIT: The official H!P website confirms it. Yuuka's gone after this year.

EDIT 2: TKMR has translated Yuuka's message. An excerpt:

Since becoming a high school student, I have been unable to keep up with my Smileage work and school at the same time and it has bothered me a great deal.  I started to think about my future and realized that my desire to attend a university had grown a lot over time.

Takahashi Ai's Graduation Concert Sokko DVD download link (new links)

So for those of you confused as to why this is out already: this is the sokko (unedited) DVD. It was sold by UFA (at the concert?) to those who cannot wait for the real DVD. The overall audio and video quality isn't as good as normal DVDs (though this one is still pretty good) and the camera angles will likely be different on the normal DVD release (IIRC, Linlin's fall during the triple grad wasn't shown on the normal DVD release). It also doesn't have any bonus footage (or a menu for the matter). But, it's the whole concert and it's months earlier than the DVD release so that's awesome.

I'm definitely loving this PV. There isn't a terrible amount of things going on, but it's a very nice change of pace from the usual H!P PV fare. Plus everyone looks incredible and elegant (except for Risako's hair. Just no.). Though I could have done without the lipstick (or at least the shade) - it looks unnatural on half of them.
