Morning Musume debuts at #2

So, I expected them to debut at #2 but the first day sales are amazingggggg. They almost sold more than Mikan sold in it's entire first week. This single's first day sales are even higher than the magical Nanchatte Renai single! And the best part of it all is that we almost, almost beat EXILE - something that no one thought possible. EXILE is selling lower than expected, so if Morning Musume can keep up sales like this the whole week (it's unlikely but...) then we might just be able to snatch #1 away. Yay wotas (and everyone else who bought copies!)!

  1. I though the gap between Exile and Momusu was going to be much bigger. I also didn't expect such high day one sales.

    I'm glad I bought my 5 copies.
H!O ended up buying 280 of them in total. (yours included of course)

    I'm happy for the girls.
    Happy birthday Ai.

  2. I think you can expect MM to double up from first days sales for the whole week.

Yes, EXILE's sales are a disappointment but they should be on a steady decline unlike MM's big drop after the first day.

RAINBOW might be have steady sales as well. I guess we have to keep an eye on where they are. 10k+ difference for 6 days is easy to surpass especially MM's low sales during the week.

  3. I would be thrilled if MoMusu sold 100,000 for the first time in years, even if they don't reach #1

  4. ^ 100k would be the greatest thing in the world.

The good news about the race for #1 is that what EXILE sold today (34k) is likely the highest they will sell all week. Tomorrow their sales will definitely drop.

The bad news is (as SFG alluded to above), so will Morning Musume. The key here is how much each group drops. If Morning Musume can maintain 17-20k per day then they have a real shot at #1. That, however will be very hard to do. H!P's sales are at their highest point day 1 because that's when most pre-orders are counted. The rest of the week is made up of late wota and casual fans, which usually isn't enough to sustain the first day's sales.

But, I have my fingers crossed. And if the rest of the week shapes up nicely, I may just buy a few more copies.

  8. Most likely they will be at 55-60k for the first week and 12k for the second so yes there is a decent chance to reach 100k total. They just need strong 3rd and 4th weeks (about 10k each) or chart for a long time (6+ weeks).

Or, of course, they could just sell 100k in the first week and get it over with~ (about 18k per day for the rest of the week is needed for that to happen.)

  9. Something to point out: they may drop down a bit tomorrow but H!P singles usually get an end of the week bump from all the stores that only report to Oricon at the end of the week.
Idol groups in general usually display this kind of sales pattern at least the ones I follow.

  10. I got so scared that the Aichan version wouldn't be on iTunes so I couldn't buy Ai's song but the normal single was under morning musume and the Aichan version was under morning musume's Japanese name.

  11. Yay! I'm so happy. I wasn't able to contribute due to moving costs this month, but I've decided I'm going to buy the next single - it'll be my first Idol related purchase. And I want to support the next generation of Morning Musume, under Gaki's leadership.

  12. Oh well, there goes what little chance we had of beating EXILE. They sold 60k in day 2 and Morning Musume sold 8k. We're still have 2nd place though.

  14. ^ Yeaaah, there's no way I'm getting up at 5 am, sorry S/mileage. I don't think even Airi herself could get me out of bed at 5 in the morning

  15. ^ she could... as long as you can last until 5 lol
