Note: Originally I planned to have all of the PVs done by today but I'm really busy right now and that won't happen. So, this post is both a download link for Heroine ni Naraou ka! so that you can preview what is to come, as well as a review of the Berryz Blu-ray PV collection. I should have the rest of the PVs uploaded by Saturday.
My copy of Berryz's Blu-ray PV collection arrived yesterday with the S/mileage concert (I bought the Berryz video by myself, so it's not a part of ADDP). Yay!
When these PV collections were first announced, I was definitely looking forward to see the PVs in HD. But, then it was revealed that only a handful of them would be in HD and the rest would be SD upscales. Of course I was a bit disappointed, but the earlier PVs were not likely shot in HD anyway so it couldn't be helped.
So I really wasn't sure if I'd like this release or not. Fortunately, the second I popped the disc in my PS3, all worries went away.
The first PV I watched was Jiriri Kiteru. I knew I wanted to start with an older PV a) to see how well (or badly) UFA handled the non-HD PVs and b) because Jiriri Kiteru was the first H!P PV I ever saw, 4 years ago.
I must say, I was really impressed. I don't have the Jiriri Kiteru single V so I can't compare the two (though I think I have an older Berryz PV collection somewhere on my PC that I have to find), but it looked darned good to me.
But of course, the real stars are the HD PVs. Some look better than others, but they all look amazing. In hindsight, this probably wasn't the best choice of HD PVs to preview the Blu-ray PV collection (I picked it because Heroine ni Narou ka! is one of my favorite PVs/singles of the year, as you'll soon see in my yearly rankings), but again, it still looks great. (For the record, I think Ryuusei Boy looks the best in HD. My jaw was on the floor the for the whole PV.)
And you certainly don't have to take my word for it. All of the screenshots from this post are from my encode of Heroine ni Narou ka!, which you can click on to see fullsize. And to really drive the point home, here is a screenshot comparison, comparing the standard DVD PV vs the Blu-ray HD PV:
The first picture you see is the SD DVD PV, resized to 720p by me. If you put your mouse pointer on the picture, you'll see a new, second picture - the 720p HD PV, encoded by me. Moving back and forth between the two, the quality is obvious.
UFA did a really great job with this release. I'm 100% satisfied with it and assuming I don't go completely broke by the end of the year, I'd like to buy C-ute's as well.

It's 720p HD, 171 MB, and of course, it was encoded from the Blu-ray PV collection DVD.
