[TPF] Reborn ~Inochi no Audition~

The third and final video of our gradation subtitling special is the Reborn ~Inochi no Audition~ play!

I'm not normally a fan of plays and musicals, but this one is actually really interesting, especially to someone that is interested in history, like me. The story goes like this: each of the characters represents a person in history that is dead but is looking for a new life (Risa portrays France's Joan of Arc in the screenshot above).

Sayashi Riho plays the role of Shakespeare (English playwright),

Fukumura Mizuki plays Cleopatra (famous pharaoh of ancient Egypt and known for her beauty),

Suzuki Kanon plays Yang Guifei (one of the most beautiful women in ancient China, supposedly),

Ikuta Erina plays Ono no Komachi (a Japanese poet that was also renowned for her beauty),

Miyamoto Karin plays Genghis Khan (founder of the Mongolian empire that eventually became one of the largest empires in history),

Sengoku Minami plays Oda Nobunaga (helped unify ancient Japan),

Mori Saki plays Akechi Mitsuhide (a samurai that served Oda Nobunaga but eventually betrayed and killed him),

Miyoshi Erika plays Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (an important classical music composer),

Kudo Haruka plays Leonardo da Vinci (a prominent figure in the Italian Renaissance),

and Tanaka Reina plays a mysterious girl named Bebe.

Together, those 11 people all share one goal: being reincarnated and starting fresh with a new life. To reach that goal, they are given basic details of the profiles of 10 people that will be born in the future (for example, "an artist that lives in the 1800s"). In order to gain that future person's trust (and live his life), each member has to appeal to it by explaining why they would be a good fit to take over that life and change the world in some way.

Since there are 11 people and only 10 new lives, of course that means that one person will perish forever, making it an intense battle to gain one of the new lives.

Fans of history will definitely get a kick out of this play, but even if that's not something that interests you, it's still interesting to see how each girl portrays an important historical figure. There is also a bit of humor here and there (especially with Reina's character) and a few songs a performed, making it an all around fun video to watch.

[TPF] Atena & Robikerottsu - Seishun! LOVE Lunch Making Of

With the suddenness of Aika's announcement, we didn't have much time to prepare something truly special for her, but we at least wanted to do something and since the Atena & Robikerottsu unit contains both Aika and Risa, it seemed like a good choice.

Of course, Nakky and Chisato are also present in this video along with Aika and Risa, as they were all a part of the unit.

As you can tell from the screenshots, the quality sucks. This was encoded from a streaming source because it's the best we could find on a short notice.

There will be one more release today (and it's a big one), so look for it!

[TPF] Morning Musume - On Ryu 4/27/12 720p

In honor of Risa (and Aika. Of course we didn't forget about her, though the suddenness of her announcement limited what we could do for her), here is a subtitled TV appearance featuring her and 10th gen.

After the standard self-introductions, the discussion starts with Risa explaining how she feels Morning Musume has changed.

Then 10th Gen talks about their feelings of Morning Musume,

and finally, Risa takes a trip down memory lane as she is reminded of her early Musume days.

We will have two more releases today so look out for them!

Thoughts on Aika's upcoming graduation

So Aika will be graduating on the same day as Risa.

I'm not going to make a long post here because there's nothing particularly strange about this one (except maybe the suddenness of it, but that's due to a recent medical check-up: "from an examination this year on April 23rd, it was concluded that '...if she is to participate in any intense performance, there is a chance of her returning to her injured state.'")

To be honest, I don't know which is harder to take - a scandal where a girl breeches unwritten idol rules or something like this where a girl does everything correctly but is physically unable to continue due to injury.

I really feel sorry for Aika because she really seemed to love Morning Musume. I think that the fact that even after injuring herself multiple times she didn't give up and participated whenever possible is proof of that. She gave it her all (and perhaps that's the reason for injury; going 100% in an already stressful routine on a fragile body is recipe for disaster) and had incredible heart, but unfortunately it wasn't enough for her to continue.

She wasn't heavily featured in singles or dances so there won't be a major change there, so its easy to say that it's no big deal for her to leave, but I disagree. Aika was a good senpai to the younger members.

She has a caring personality that's almost mother-like and she showed that on camera quite a few times when teaching Morning Musume's kouhai members. Even if she was occasionally harsh, she definitely cared or else she wouldn't have taken the time to teach them. (She even spent some one-on-one time with them despite not be able to properly walk or dance.) It might have not been flashy or obvious, but she definitely had an impact on Morning Musume and it sucks to see her leave.

The only thing I really have a problem with is her graduating alongside Risa. This isn't a knock on Aika, but Risa deserves to graduate alone. (Aika does too; everyone does.) Aika's leaving will be overshadowed by Risa's gradation and Risa's leaving won't be 100% about Risa as any proper graduation should be. I'd much rather have Aika graduate at the H!P summer concerts. However I can't complain too much since some H!P members didn't get a graduation concert at all. Aika gets one at the famous Nippon Budokan.

On the bright side, I think that this means that Sayumi and Reina will stay a little longer than they (or the powers that be) might have planned. I don't think they would have left this year or anytime soon anyway, but Aika's leaving ensures that they extend their Morning Musume tenure by a bit more. If one (or both) of them leaves then that means that Mizuki either becomes sub-leader or leader (!). Not that I have a particular problem with that or anything (somehow I think Mizupon has become my favorite Morning Musume member), but it just doesn't seem like it would happen. At least not in the near future.

The other good news is that Aika (probably) will be staying with H!P ("I’m consulting with Tsunku and the staff in hopes that I might be able continue activities with Hello!Project.") so at least she's not just going to disappear. Still, I'm sad that we won't see Aika as a Morning Musume member after May 18th.

Morning Musume - On Ryu (2012.04.27)

A 12 minute talk of Risa and 10th gen on On Ryu.

The talk mainly focuses on Risa and her look throughout her Morning Musume years. My favorite is the Kanashimi Twilight look.

I didn't encode this so thanks to the person who did. Also note that the date in the filename is wrong (it says 2011 instead of 2012), so you'll have to fix that after downloading.

Looking ahead to Renai Hunter's competition

Like I usually do for special or memorable releases, here's a look at next week's competition for Risa's last single as a member of Morning Musume.

The above screenshot is next week's Ninki poll. According to the Japanese Oricon readers that were polled, the top 5 artists for next week are Sexy Zone, Perfume, 2AM, Morning Musume, and ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION.

Sexy Zone will take #1. Their last single (which was also their debut - you might remember that Mobekimasu faced off against them) sold 173,000 copies.

Perfume will be in the running for #1, but unless Perfume has a sudden upward surge in sales (or Sexy Zone's single sells way lower than expected), they will take #2. Their last few singles sold around 80,000-94,000 copies in their first week.

And so that leaves the battle for 3rd. Despite what the Ninki poll says, it's Morning Musume's spot to lose. 2AM's Japanese debut single sold 26,000 copies and they'd have to double that in order to compete with Morning Musume. ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION usually sells less than that (20,000 or so). And the person ranked 6th in the Ninki poll is a seiyuu (K-ON! fans will recognize her) that poses an even less threat than ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION.

Although the numbers to the left of the artist's name do not represent predicted sales in any way, this time around they should be pretty close - at least for the top 5.

My guess is that the week ends up like this:
1. Sexy Zone (195,000)
2. Perfume (97,000)
3. Morning Musume (45,000)
4. 2AM (30,000)
5. ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION (16,000)

If you want to ensure Morning Musume gets that #3 spot, you can buy this single!

Morning Musume - Renai Hunter PV

Today brought a nice surprise for me - the Renai Hunter music video! In my opinion, Aichan had a proper farewell with two nice PVs and of course, her solo song. Did Gakisan also get a fitting farewell? Only one way to find out!

The first thing that stood out to me was the dance. It's just perfect with Gakisan in the center.

There were quite a few times during the dance where I caught myself saying "awesome!". As is the case here,

even better here,

 and I love Risa here:

And there were many more moments in the dance that weren't as gif-able, but still were cool. For me, the dance made an already cool opening even cooler.

Risa wink!

Besides the dance, there are 2 types of close-up shots, one with the hanging beads that UFA likes so much,

and another, slightly more creative close-up shot making use of the wind machine.

Every single one of the girls looked there best in shots like these:

And Aika + Masaki gave us quite an interesting moment during one of the shots:

That's so cute~

In contrast, Ikuta turns up the heat with a more mature look. I totally almost had fanboy moments during these two parts.

The only other shot in the PV is some out-of-nowhere moving magazine thing.

Although everyone got their turn at posing for their own cover, some of the girls shined here more than the others. Aika's pose immediately comes to mind. I realize now that I probably should have made a gif of it because she gives an awesome wink at the end, but oh well.

Mizuki,

Ayumi,

and Ikuta were all workin' that lollipop and were the stand-outs for me.

The PV ends with Gakisan by herself, as she mouths "Morning Musume daisuki," making Risa fans and Morning Musume fans alike tear up inside.

This PV features Risa heavily, as it should. She's Morning Musume's longest serving member and who knows if/when that record will ever be broken. But with that said, the PV is a lot fairer than one would expect. No, it's not divided exactly into equal parts, but I feel like everyone had a moment and a chance to shine.

Aika apparently wasn't able to take part in the dance shot, but her moment with Masaki as well as her magazine cover are two of the most memorable parts of the PV for me. The other senpai members did well vocally in the song and shined with their solos. Riho continues to impress me and seems more than able to sing lead on any given song. There wasn't quite as much Kanon or Mizuki as I'd like, but that's just nitpicking on a great single. UFA is really on a roll this year with PVs and Renai Hunter is no exception. Singles like this is what makes me proud to call myself a fan of Hello! Project.

Of course, don't forget to buy this single if you can. Gakisan deserves it!
